 | | Welcome to Our Room, I'm Ms. Schilling | Things happening in our Room...
In math, fourth grade and fifth grade is investigating how to solve word problems by using secret code words.
The Secret code words are:
Addition:
altogether, in all, sum, entire cost, total , total cost,, combined, both have, etc...
Subtraction:
change, how much more, difference, how much less, how many fewer, minus, how much left, how much saved, how much taller, how many more, how much greater, etc...
We are continuing our understanding of division by reinforcing our multiplication skills.
For example:
When a student reads a division problem, the first step is to find the multiplication fact that will fit closest to the actual number (dividend).
Question 5/ 250 = ?
Find your multiple that fits your division problem best.
5 x 1 = 5 I used the fact 5x5 and transferred what I know.
5 x 2 = 10 I then added a zero to 5 to get my answer for my
5 x 3 = 15 division problem.
5 x 4 = 20
5 x 5 = 25 -> 5 x 50 = 5/250 = 50
