Just for Parents/Guardians

Welcome to the Parent/Guardian Web Sites Page! Try these interesting sites for Parents/Guardians:
A special note to Parents and Guardians, Ames Elementary has adopted a school uniform policy this year which we expect to attribute to higher academic achievement and have a positive and reinforcing effect on social behavior.
The Uniform is as follows:

Dark Blue pants with belts for boys and Dark Blue skirts, pants or jumpers for girls.
Polo Shirts (which are the shirts with collars) or dress shirts or blouses with collars for boys and girls in the following colors ONLY:
blue - dark or light

red

white

yellow

If your child needs to wear a sweater for extra warmth in the winter, the only colors to be worn are the same as above. No zipper hooded sweatshirts allowed.
Shirts are expected to be tucked in pants or skirts (or shorts in the
spring/summer) at all times. Shirts should be washed and cleaned as
often as needed. Thanks for your help! It's REALLY appreciated!

Fix-up Strategies to Use when Listening to Your Child Read
There are many strategies we've been learning to help us make reading easier and improve comprehension. We have worked on Reciprocal Teaching Comprehension Strategies. The four we use regularly in our classroom are:
PREDICT
CLARIFY
QUESTION
SUMMARIZE
The students are learning how to best facilitate their own learning and monitor their comprehension. They are beginning to meet in small study groups and take on the roles of Discussion Leader, Clarifier, Questioner, Predictor, and Summarizer on a rotating schedule and then incorporate into interactive discussions identified with accountable talk.

Do your kids know all of these Sight Words?
Check to see if your child can read these sight words with speed and accuaracy. If not, keep track of which words they haven't mastered and drill them for a short period each evening and on weekends.
