 | | A Global Perspective on Learning | Assessment is a critical component of the ESL instructional program. Through ongoing assessment, it is possible to document the progress of each student as well as the overall effectiveness of the program. Assessment serves multiple program goals:
* To verify that students have been placed correctly.
* To evaluate student progress.
* To provide students with feedback on their performance.
* To evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum and instructional strategies.
Assessment refers to the use of instruments and procedures for gathering data about learners’ skills and performance on a regular basis. While testing is a part of assessment, assessment also includes identifying learners’ needs, documenting progress toward meeting their learning goals, and documenting the degree to which program objectives are being met.
Mr. Weimholt, Mr. Thor and Mr. Hader work with students who are ELL daily within the classroom setting.
